Did remind me a bit like connect 4 just that when you place a sphere it converts your opponents spheres into your colour.

I figured it out that it was called othello, just couldn't figure out how to play it.

mm, I thought it was one of the more common board games we play as a kid? Or at least i did, especially after school exams before before school holidays.. haha, although I was never really good with it...
